Hello,

I've got a similar problem with Gimp for windows: some parts of the selection 
rectangle (walking
ants ;)
aren't cleared properly. The result are some artifacts turning the background pixels 
to negative (no
suprise, like the selection always does). Under Linux I've never had ANY problem with 
the gimp.
I think most problems under Linux are due to compilation- or configuration- (shared 
libs, etc)
problems.
