this has already been answered twice last week. something on your machine
is not installed - or running. possibly an identd??

you need to add --host i686-pc-linux-gnu

after your ./configure  command

(thats if you've got a PentiumPro/II or III system )

other environments are:

ac_cv_host=${ac_cv_host='i686-pc-linux-gnu'}
ac_cv_host_alias=${ac_cv_host_alias='i686-pc-linux-gnu'}
ac_cv_host_cpu=${ac_cv_host_cpu='i686'}
ac_cv_host_os=${ac_cv_host_os='linux-gnu'}
ac_cv_host_vendor=${ac_cv_host_vendor='pc'}

best wishes!
