Hi Dan! I would perhaps try joining us on IRC in #GIMP (on GIMPNet, not freenode). In particular I would try to talk to Jehan Pages - he is the one currently driving the development of an "Extensions" manager for GIMP that will ultimately replace the functionality most people were looking for in the registry (but integrated into GIMP).
