I seem to get about the same. Are you recording at 16bit? Or higher?
Does that even make a difference?
I did some loopback tests earlier, and put them up on my website:

It is a loopback test, so there's a double D/A A/D cycle going on, but
the results were very good for 16 bit recording. I was quite happy
with them.
