Mumps plays a significant role in some of Noel Streatfield's books. In "The Bell Family", Ginnie's 'insatiable curiousity' causes her to be exposed to mumps, but she doesn't catch it. The Heath children in "Tennis Shoes" are less fortunate when they share a railway carriage with someone who turns out to have this disease.
