I'm new to Git (have never used it yet), and have a couple questions about basic install and config that I can't find clear answers to in the manual.
I want to use Git for version control of web site development files (html, css, php). Do I need to install it on my unix webserver? Or can I use the Windows version here on my desktop and manage/deploy the files to the web server? If I must install it on the webserver, can I use the Windows GUI to checkout the files, or is my only choice to learn the commands and check files it and out using the command-line over SSH or something?
