Typically you want `git blame` for this task but there are other
approaches as well -- for instance the searching facility of `git log`:
you can its -G<pattern> command-line option to find a commit in which a
line matching the <pattern> was introduced, like in

  git log -Gfrobnicate -- path/to/file.c

Also see the description of the "-S" command-line option of `git log`.
