​You git clone worked on my system. Given the error message, my _GUESS_ is
that your name server cannot resolve git.videolan.org to an IP address. For
whatever it's worth:

host git.videolan.org
git.videolan.org is an alias for albiero.videolan.org.
albiero.videolan.org has address
albiero.videolan.org has IPv6 address 2a01:e0d:1:3:58bf:fa76:0:1

so perhaps doing a:

git clone git://

would work for you, since this directly specifies the host IP address.​

While a transcendent vocabulary is laudable, one must be eternally careful
so that the calculated objective of communication does not become ensconced
in obscurity.  In other words, eschew obfuscation.
