Solved with assistance of James Dennes (GitHub Staff) ! :)
The problem was the proxy.
The solution is :
1) if you run "git clone" with "GIT_CURL_VERBOSE=1" you will have more
GIT_CURL_VERBOSE=1 git clone https://github.com/libgit2/libgit2.git
2) clear parameters regarding proxy from your *local* config file and enter
the correct proxy URL for the "http.proxy" in the *global* config setting :
git config --unset http.proxy
git config --unset https.proxy
git config --unset remote.origin.proxy
git config --unset core.gitproxy
git config *--global* http.proxy <http-proxy-url>
2) retry "git clone".
