As far as I know neither the Git project itself nor the parties it
endorses for providing "official" builds of Git for various platforms
do not distribute tarballs with binaries compiled for Mac OS X.

And why would anyone do that after all, really?
If a typical user of this platform wants a compiled program they either
seek an Universal executable (that DMG thingy) or use brew and its
packages.

I'd say these days tarballs are used to distribute reference bundles of
source code and nothing else.
