Well, if you figure out *how* those tools do it, then you can use that
way. Sure, it won't be running `git status`, but it is most likely some
invocation of `git` involved. If you find that invocation too cumbersome
you can always create an alias or a custom command (of course you then
send the custom command upstream so we all can enjoy it :).
