Think of git as the "assembly language of DVCS". The reason that helper scripts are so common and considered useful is exactly why people want to use languages that don't have goto statements. But we can do that now because we understand the control flow of while/do, for/next, etc. Now, I see that you are using both local repositories and github repositories.
