The submodule system is being worked on by various volunteers (it's all 
'volunteer' effort!) 

If you want to follow along try having a look at

a search for `submodule`..

  When switching between branches, or stashing commits, git does a crappy job 
of dealing with its own submodules. Please integrate these tools better, so
