As per here, it is meant to be notified of a critical connection exception async, and in this side case it wasn't https://docs.oracle.com/javaee/6/api/javax/jms/ExceptionListener.html As said all other ActiveMQConnectionX exceptions seem to be making it to it, apart from this one flow found after debugging why spring never got informed. Even a timeout caused in other places (such as the pinger) invoke the exception listeners, so either the whole of artemis client is doing it fundamentally wrong in all places...i find this very hard to believe..., or simply this is just a missed exception not making it to the exception listener.
