Thanks for the pointer. We applied this patch to Hive 3.1.2, and the issue appears to be fixed in our environment. I checked HIVE-25918. It reloads partitions from HMS before updating stats, so it may already fix the original case on master. I have not reproduced that case on master yet. This PR also keeps the Partition objects returned by HMS and prevents alter requests from overwriting a valid createTime with zero.
