Despite the name, the PPA is not maintained by Geany developers. Coincidently the maintainer of the PPA was recently reminded that its was two releases behind Geany. It is unclear if the maintainer of the PPA monitors Geany issues and will see this offer of help, you may do better contacting them directly.
