I see the laggy update of the symbol list also on Linux, something between 1-2 seconds and a little spike in CPU usage (Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-10210U CPU @ 1.60GHz).
However, I do *not* see a freeze, only the symbol list needs a little to update but I can continue editing the file meanwhile.
