b4n left a comment (geany/geany#4302) FTR yeah that's expected: when the X11 backend is available at build time, dynamic checks are inserted to detect which backend is used at runtime, and those rely on verifying whether some objects are of a backend-specific type, which depend on the relevant APIs being available.
