Okay, I recompiled Geany from master (most recent version):

The issue on Wayland persists, but now is a little bit different. There is no 
error message, on opening just this message appears:

Mai 09 13:41:07 OFFICE systemd[3594]: Started 
app-geany@c5ae7f9b0bca4b0cb07d0b148b7ee678.service - Geany - Integrated 
Development Environment.
```

Also, it is not consistent. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't work. Most 
of the time it does not work. It does not do a difference if I open local 
files, files over SMB or over SFTP.
