b4n left a comment (geany/geany#4348) I agree, its just that it's one of those things that look iniquitous but might have subtle weird consequences (proof being the current situation). I trust you so I'm optimistic it will only be an improvement, but I'd still like some further testing 🙂
I'm also wondering if we shouldn't try and merge most part of `new()` and `open()` for 2.2, it looks both awfully similar and different.
