It's possibly me not knowing much about this, but why would it be harder to 
clean the bundle *after* the build than it is before?  I mean, if we need any 
additional things, sure, let's install them the normal way, but keep 
development files from the bundled packages and only clean them up after the 
build, wouldn't that work?  This said, the current approach seems to list 
dependencies manually, which might bite us in the future if that ever changes… 
but that might be yet another separate question.

Alternatively indeed, we could install all we need, and only then cleanup the 
rootfs, but indeed there might be a whole lot more to remove.
