I think your implemented feature addresses something different than what I initially requested, at least from what I saw in your code. My request was that the selected file tab is visually synchronized with the file in the workspace. This feature is available in other editors like Kate, Eclipse, visual studio and so on, as an example, here's a quick screencap showing it in Kate. You can see the tree view on the left updating when I switch between files.
