Hi

I use geany for almost all pure text related files like txt, md, sh or py.
While working on a quite big document I use zotero for my content management. I
do not want do directly use an office suite (LO) at this stage but the text
editor I am accustomed to. Which is geany.

Unfortunaltely there is currently no way for geany to handle zotero citations
which limits Geany's usefulness for Zotero-based writing workflows.

Among lightweight, general-purpose Linux text editors, practical Zotero
integration is still uncommon. While Emacs offers mature citation plugins, and
Vim/Neovim also have options, they require workflows that many non-expert users
(like me) find difficult to adopt. Geany already provides a rich plugin
ecosystem, so adding Zotero support would be a significant usability
improvement for users who prefer a lightweight, conventional editor over Emacs
or Vim.

Existing implementations, such as Zettlr's Zotero support, might provide useful
ideas for citation lookup, insertion workflows and user interaction, even
though Geany would require its own implementation.

What I currently miss is a convenient way to continue writing in Geany (for
such projects primarily Markdown-based. Plain text files would work equally
well.) without having to repeatedly switch between applications just to insert
or look up citations in Zotero.

Possible functionality could include:
browsing or searching the Zotero library,
inserting citations or citation keys into the current document,
opening linked PDFs or other attachments,
optionally supporting Better BibTeX where appropriate.

I am available for any further questions and I would be happy to test early
versions and provide feedback if someone decides to implement such a plugin.

Greetings from Germany

MH
