@mingmwang since this PR had several conflicts, I took the liberty of merging from master and resolving the conflicts in [832b43b](https://github.com/apache/arrow-datafusion/pull/2029/commits/832b43bf2aff1f6f18f0c0c09be931d974419122) and [a2bedc7](https://github.com/apache/arrow-datafusion/pull/2029/commits/a2bedc70f2524a62bfb164c6e5ca55865f39f2ad).
