Do the C++/go implementations always write the continuation token? We could
use that to detect the "new" format? Perhaps?
If this isn't possible that's fine, the important thing is that the Rust
client can read what is written by the corresponding server. This is currently
not the case with this PR, and the fact no tests are failing is rather
concerning tbh...
