Thanks for the input, I really appreciate it. I went with the following:  As expected, it is an order of magnitude faster than my fancy generator. It seemed that [numpy.setdiff1d](https://numpy.org/doc/stable/reference/generated/numpy.setdiff1d.html) is doing what I was looking for. As expected, sorting the array upfront does not help the performance. I'm going to close this one now since the performance looks satisfactory.
