   AFAIK we certainly support older GLIBC version. We have "manylinux2014" 
wheels that have a minimum version of GLIBC 2.17 
(https://pypi.org/project/pyarrow/#files). 
   Maybe it did install the wrong wheel? (do you still have the install logs 
where you could check which file it downloaded?)
   
   Also, I see you are using a conda environment. If you install pyarrow using 
conda instead, it should normally also be supported on your system.
