An update here is that with a few PRs in flight, some of the planning benchmarks go 50% faster (see details on https://github.com/apache/arrow-datafusion/pull/9954) It will take a while to get these PRs in (there are a few chained up) but the "don't copy the plan so many times" approach seems to be paying off very well.
