It may also be worth pointing out that recently support was added to truncate column statistics, page indexes have always supported this, and spark was actually already doing this for columns statistics, with dubious correctness properties. The net result though, is that even is you do write column statistics for all columns, they need not be very large -- This is an automated message from the Apache Git Service.
