(Updated my previous comment, for which the `a1` example should have been
using 4 spaces instead of 5.)
Using lean_left_on_odd_padding=False fixes the b4 case, but breaks the a1
case, (see
https://github.com/pandas-dev/pandas/pull/59624#issuecomment-2313330376).
