Thanks for explaining. I like the idea of only showing the latest release in any one major series in the drop down (i.e., only show 18.1 not 18.1 and 18.0). I think we can make that change separately of other changes too. Also separately, I think the version switcher doesn't need to cover all versions of the docs we host. The version switcher could be a short list of recent major releases and we could maintain a comprehensive index page. I personally would prefer to have long-lived links to docsets for every release, major, minor, or patch since it is convenient for users to pull up the docset that perfectly matches the version of the software they're using and avoids requiring the user to understand the semantics of our versioning strategy. I think this ship has sailed since we aren't storing docsets for patch releases at the moment.
