Review Comment:
I think you will want this handled for the "people running R/Python in
Windows on a Surface" use case, who probably have no idea what architecture
they're running (or are using an application one or two layers removed from the
driver manager like QGIS). Alternatively, reasonable error message along the
lines of "did you install the driver for the correct architecture?)
