Hi @thisisnic, I think this issue might have been a placeholder for supporting the Arrow Union types, which I don't think we support yet. Just guessing based on the issue reporter and the author/timing of https://github.com/apache/arrow/blob/d2a8b78cacc766cf3b9ac206dc8f2afbd3975947/r/src/datatype.cpp#L110-L116 We do have a binding for `dplyr::union` though.
