Yes, I agree. My main takeaways so far are focused on how to generate more efficient Parquet files, and I’ll be happy to share all of them with you. Ultimately, I hope my Parquet rewriter and the planned encoding selector will produce similar output files. As for your approach to building the encoding selector—I fully support the idea.
