i think it was just carried over from the initial implementation - https://github.com/apache/arrow-rs/pull/3847 dont think theres a particular reason its not supported. for reference recently ipc supported compression levels which allows negative too -https://github.com/apache/arrow-rs/pull/10133 -- This is an automated message from the Apache Git Service.
