   # Which issue does this PR close?

   Closes #11191.

   # Rationale for this change

Extracting `a` from `{}` produces SQL NULL for unshredded input, but a valid
Variant null for shredded input. Explicit `{"a": null}` should remain a valid
Variant null in both cases.

   # What changes are included in this PR?

For Variant output, object-field traversal carries field absence into the
result validity. A field remains present when either its fallback value or
typed value is present. Typed casts retain their existing behavior.

   # Are these changes tested?

The regression compares shredded and unshredded extraction for missing
fields, explicit nulls, typed values, fallback values, and empty objects. It
also covers nested paths, null parents, sliced inputs, both cast modes, and
default or explicitly requested Variant output.

   # Are there any significant user-facing changes?

   No public API changes.

   # AI assistance

OpenAI Codex generated the fix, regression test, and this description, and
ran local validation. The contributor authorized submission as a draft for
human review.
