# Which issue does this PR close? - Closes #11719 # Rationale for this change `Dictionary(Int32, Utf8)` columns currently use `GenericInProgressArray`. Filtering therefore materializes an intermediate array before the coalescer assembles the output with `concat`. For very sparse filters, decoding the selected keys directly into the output dictionary avoids most of that work. # What changes are included in this PR? This adds `InProgressStringDictionaryArray` for `Dictionary(Int32, Utf8)`. Very sparse filters append selected values directly to a dictionary builder. Denser filters, and dictionaries containing null values, continue to use the existing materialized filter path. # Are these changes tested? The new tests cover sparse filtering, null keys, null dictionary values, mixed sparse and materialized inputs, and empty output. # Are there any significant user-facing changes?
