# Which issue does this PR close? - Closes #11938 # Rationale for this change `VariantType` currently accepts every `Struct`, so callers cannot rely on it to reject schemas that cannot represent Variant data. This validates the canonical storage layout while retaining valid encoded and shredded forms. # What changes are included in this PR? `VariantType::try_new` and `validate` now check the required metadata field and the `value`/`typed_value` layout, including nested object and list shapes.
