# Which issue does this PR close? - Closes #11948 # Rationale for this change Strict Arrow-to-Variant conversion currently overwrites duplicate Struct field names and Map keys, losing earlier values without an error. Null-valued duplicates are also missed because null object members are omitted during insertion. # What changes are included in this PR? Strict casts now return a duplicate-key error for repeated names within an object, including nested objects and null-valued entries. Safe casts retain their current overwrite behaviour. Regression tests cover per-object scope and case-sensitive names. # Are these changes tested? Yes. `parquet-variant-compute` passes 376/376 library tests. Workspace tests and doctests pass with `arrow-pyarrow` excluded; the full workspace run could not link that crate because this host lacks the Python 3.9 framework. # Are there any significant user-facing changes? Strict casts now error instead of silently dropping repeated keys.
