# Which issue does this PR close? - Closes #11589 # Rationale for this change Scale increases beyond the target decimal precision currently fail the whole cast before `CastOptions.safe` can handle individual values. Zero remains representable, while non-zero values overflow. # What changes are included in this PR? Out-of-table scale increases now use per-value cast handling. Regression coverage spans Decimal32, Decimal64, Decimal128 and Decimal256, including mixed, zero-only, all-null and empty arrays. # Are these changes tested? The `arrow-cast` test suite passed (443 tests). Workspace tests passed with `arrow-pyarrow` excluded; the full suite could not link that crate because this host's Python 3.9 configuration points to a missing Xcode framework. Workspace Clippy, formatting and spelling checks passed. # Are there any significant user-facing changes? With `safe: true`, zero is preserved and overflowing values become null. Strict casts still return an error for non-zero overflow. AI disclosure: ChatGPT assisted with the investigation and generated the implementation and regression tests. -- This is an automated message from the Apache Git Service.
