After reconsidering that scaling is conditioned by the nature of the given data source, I think this optimisation with its drawbacks is actually not the way to go. Unfortunately we were not able to apply the xlang workaround. In the case of bigqueryio we should just wait for a reworked native solution or even consider trying to implement it ourselves.
