### What would you like to happen? For newcomers to get started more easily, a better error message is needed. When I was setting up my Java development for this project, I ran into the problem that my project always failed to compile. The error message I received was `unsupported Java version.` Here is the code: https://github.com/apache/beam/blob/889fd8bcdc991e63eb3a25857a03e6e115b5a263/buildSrc/src/main/groovy/org/apache/beam/gradle/BeamModulePlugin.groovy#L2361-L2369 However, just such a message is not very useful because it neither shows what the supported Java version is nor which version you are using. For example, I spent almost two hours finding the supported Java version I needed to install. So, I propose that we should have a better error message, which will let newcomers set up their development environment more easily. ### Issue Priority Priority: 3 (nice-to-have improvement) ### Issue Components - [ ] Component: Python SDK - [X] Component: Java SDK - [ ] Component: Go SDK - [ ] Component: Typescript SDK - [ ] Component: IO connector - [ ] Component: Beam examples - [ ] Component: Beam playground - [ ] Component: Beam katas - [ ] Component: Website - [ ] Component: Spark Runner - [ ] Component: Flink Runner - [ ] Component: Samza Runner - [ ] Component: Twister2 Runner - [ ] Component: Hazelcast Jet Runner - [ ] Component: Google Cloud Dataflow Runner -- This is an automated message from the Apache Git Service.
