Review Comment:
   Changed to use `usingSolaceRecord`.
   
   I think the if branching here does not play nicely with the checker, and I 
prefer to leave all the validation steps in a single method. I think 
`checkNotNull` is just a minor nit, necessary to leave all the validation in a 
single method.
