R: @lostluck As the title indicates, this change is not _quite_ done, but it's close enough that I think it's ready for review and I don't want to delay it any longer since it's already spent a bit too long brewing. I documented all the changes you can expect up above, but to reiterate: You can skip all the Kafka examples I wrote except the top-level one (examples/kafka/taxi.go) that I'll be keeping.
