I don't yet have time to look at this just yet, but how do you feel about merging this *after* the 2.39 cut, so the first release that requires Go 1.18 is 2.40? Whenever we merge it though, this PR must also include a note in CHANGES.md for whichever version it affects, since the Go SDK would then require a minimum Go version of 1.18.
