I decided to split this into modern-runtime support here (identifiable Iceberg 1.10+) and older Spark/Iceberg support in https://github.com/apache/datafusion-comet/pull/7226. The follow-up branch is based on this PR and restores legacy support with the naming and validation fixes discussed in review. This PR documents Java fallback below Iceberg 1.10, including in the compatibility matrix.
