Ok, thanks @martin-g and @yiaany I would like to merge this PR in now so we can see how it works Then, I think there are some follow ons like 1. adding a "show versions banner" warning (apparently you can do it with the theme option `show_version_warning_banner`) 2. Automating the creation / building of docs from a release tag cc @xudong963 as I think you are planning to run the 56 release.
