I have a custom install of GitLab, and so far, so good.
The first problem I've encountered is this:

Started GET "/code/uploads/user/avatar/2/logo.jpg" for xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx at
2014-05-18 00:57:43 -0400
Processing by GroupsController#show as HTML
Parameters: {"id"=>"uploads/user/avatar/2/logo.jpg"}
Filter chain halted as :authorize_read_group! rendered or redirected
Completed 404 Not Found in 7ms (Views: 0.8ms | ActiveRecord: 1.1ms)

when I try to upload an avatar.
I checked, and all folders are owned by the correct user/group
and that folder, all the way up to "uploads", is readable by all.

Thoughts? I couldn't find anything on search engines...

Extra:
Running on Apache2
