Hey Greg, Spot on - that was it. I had an NFS share mounted and /mnt/myz which was soft linked to ../repositories, thinking that it would work nice in the background.
But it didn't, but once I pointed the repos in /opt/bitnami/apps/gitlab/htdocs/config/gitlab.yml and /opt/bitnami/apps/gitlab/gitlab-shell/config.yml to /mnt/xyz then it worked just as it should.
