I've tried this a few times now, and whilst the repo is created and
the database has a record, I get a 404 error when I try to access the
newly-created repository on the web through Gitorious.

I had a look at the routes, and couldn't see anything in there
mentioning "blog", so thought I'd ask the experts.

I created a project named "Websites", then a repo named "blog", in
case you want to try it yourselves. Repeatable on my install, I had to
use phpmyadmin to rename the repo, and then it worked! Very odd.
